Are you Ready for the Cloud Version of Microsoft Dynamics GP?

Email | Print

Microsoft announced its cloud computing plans for the four-product Microsoft Dynamics® ERP family at Convergence this year.  They said that each major new release in the Dynamics family will have a cloud version, starting with Microsoft Dynamics NAV next year and Microsoft Dynamics GP following soon after.

Cloud computing is gaining popularity because it can be more cost and time efficient, improving productivity.  Companies can save capital expenses that are usually dedicated to purchasing new equipment, software, and IT services with every software installation or upgrade.  Cloud computing reduces time typically needed to rollout upgrades in software or changes in servers or systems.  Moving to cloud computing allows the IT department to expand computing power or add new software modules with a few simple clicks.  Microsoft is being deliberate in their development of the cloud options for Dynamics ERP to ensure they are as stable as possible, while still optimizing the solutions.

Microsoft’s roadmap for the Microsoft Dynamics ERP line of products includes more user-friendly, role-based screens; customizable architecture, and improvements for human resource and financial departments. Product upgrades also have robust applications for manufacturing, distribution, retail, and other industries, which can also be expanded as business needs change.  The Microsoft Office-like interface is familiar so that nontechnical users will quickly find it easy to use and modify without needing to write code or perform other complicated computing.

There are many benefits to the upcoming cloud-based Microsoft Dynamics ERP software and, as a Microsoft Gold Certified Dynamics partner, we are confident the transition to the cloud will be a smooth one.  Having said that, deciding whether to  have your ERP system based “in the cloud” or on premises is one that should be well-thought out to consider what is right for your organization, now and moving forward, based on your objectives, strategies and resources.
